Michael Preston

Michael Preston is the Director of Blended Learning Strategy for the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Post-Secondary Readiness, where he manages a web-based learning platform and curriculum for at-risk high school students. He is also Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. The primary focus of his research is multimedia analysis, including the development of tools that facilitate close viewing, interpretation, and critical thinking.

Previously, he worked at the Columbia Center for New Media Teaching and Learning, a service organization within Columbia University that supports faculty use of technology for instruction, and at New Visions for Public Schools, a nonprofit organization dedicated to public education reform in New York City.

Michael received a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a B.A. in East Asian studies from Harvard University.
